In the midst of the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB), an exhibition project emerged that takes visitors on a journey through time.

The “Zeitfenster” (Time Window) is an interactive exhibit that blurs the lines between yesterday and today, presenting the company's rich history in an exciting way.

The ÖBB are an integral part of Austrian identity and have made an enormous contribution to the country's development over the past 100 years. To celebrate the history of the ÖBB in a fitting way, WHY.Studio designed a mobile exhibition unit that connects past and present. BILDWERK was responsible for programming the interactive multimedia applications and the media technology.

Immersing in the Past

Visitors also have the opportunity to become part of the exhibition with their own travel experience, sharing self-made video clips online and presenting them within the Zeitfenster. This turns the screen surfaces into a living, interactive train window — forming a thematic bridge between travellers' present-day experiences and historic moments in the ÖBB's story.

Another highlight of the interactive experience is revealed on the back of the exhibit. Here, guests can step into the shoes of those who once travelled the historic ÖBB rail lines. Using a fascinating face-swap feature, visitors can insert themselves into historic ÖBB footage. This connection between past and present allows visitors to become part of history for a moment.
